Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings is arguably one of the biggest rivalries in the history of the IPL. In previous years, a contest between the two has produced some of the most thrilling matches of the tournament.
Despite both sides failing to maintain their usual high standards over the last few seasons, it is one of the keenly anticipated fixtures among fans of the Indian Premier League.
Ahead of the resumption of hostilities at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2026, a look back at some of the games that define this rivalry:
Top Moments from MI vs CSK in IPL
IPL 2010 Final
Mumbai Indians made sure they responded in some style three years later when they lifted their maiden IPL crown. With Rohit Sharma as their captain, they beat CSK by 23 runs in the 2013 final. With the West Indian powerhouse Kieron Pollard unbeaten on 60 in a whirlwind knock, it proved to be the launchpad for the dominant MI era.
IPL 2019 Final
This fixture had all eyes on it, with CSK posting a huge total of 200+, thanks to an explosive cameo from Dhoni towards the end of their innings. Rohit Sharma scored an incredible century against CSK but in vain as the latter emerged victorious. It was a high-scoring spectacle and had all the ingredients of a classic encounter, the highest watched game of the season.
All eyes on the IPL 2026 League fixture
The Mumbai Indians team appears a little stronger and they are captained by the energetic Hardik Pandya. The previous game against Gujarat Titans has proved to be a catalyst as the team now look to continue their winning momentum.
Chennai Super Kings on the other hand find themselves under the pressure after back-to-back defeats. All that they hope is for their players to stand up in this all important encounter.
There is a major cause for concern for both sides due to injuries on key personnel with Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni both sidelined with injuries but there are some hints that both could be fit for the clash as Dhoni was seen practising with his teammates whereas Rohit had returned to nets.
The rival game MI and CSK will always be special regardless of who plays as their history and close finishes makes it the most sought after contest of the Indian Premier League.
