Ireland has officially announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England and Wales, featuring a 15-member team that includes several players who will be making their debut in this prestigious global tournament.
Among the newcomers are Ava Canning, Christina Coulter Reilly, Alana Dalzell, Aimee Maguire, and Lara McBride, all set to step onto the T20 World Cup stage for the first time.
Leading the team in what will be her first T20 World Cup as captain is Gaby Lewis, who played a crucial role in helping Ireland secure their spot in the tournament. Lewis shone as the top run-scorer in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, racking up an impressive 276 runs across seven matches.
She’ll be backed by a strong batting lineup that includes Leah Paul, Amy Hunter, and Orla Prendergast, who are key players in Ireland’s top order.
The squad also features veteran player and former captain Laura Delany. Delany, who led the team during the 2023 tournament, is on the brink of becoming the first Ireland Women’s player to achieve 100 T20I wickets.
The bowling lineup is bolstered by Arlene Kelly, who was the second-highest wicket-taker in the Global Qualifier earlier this year. Ireland finds themselves in Group 2, alongside hosts England, Sri Lanka, Scotland, West Indies, and the defending champions, New Zealand. They will kick off their campaign against Scotland at Old Trafford on June 13.
