The Pakistani fast bowler Mohammed Amir, who has recently been cornered by the Indian fans for his remarks against India in the 2026 T20 World Cup, has finally opened his mouth against criticisms.
Notably, in a popular Pakistani show, Amir remarked that India wont reach the finals. Earlier, he even tagged Abhishek Sharma as a "slogger." And now that India reached the final, he is rooting for England to win the World Cup.
The entire attitude did not sit well with the former Indian player Mohammed Kaif. He countered it, saying that Amir passes such comments to gain attention. And now, Amir has responded back. On his YouTube channels, he compared his own career with Kaif's, saying that the latter played mostly on the basis of his fielding. And with the kind of experience Amir has, he feels that he doesn't need to pass catchy comments to stay relevant. On his YouTube channel, he said,
"I don’t know about his cricketing career, how much he’s played. I checked his stats; he just played 29 matches in the IPL. He has a strike rate of 103. He said that I was speaking about India to gain some attention. Firstly, I don’t need to get attention by speaking about India. Mr Kaif, I have played 350 T20s, you can check my stats. Moreover, main bas fielding pe cricket nahi khela (I didn’t play cricket just due to my fielding)."
He added,
“I have played after giving performances. Aap Dada ko thank you bole (You should be thankful to Dada, Sourav Ganguly). I have heard that you played cricket only because of your fielding. You are a cricketer; these sorts of statements don’t suit you."
What did Mohammed Kaif say about Amir?
Mohammed Kaif, on his YouTube channel, spoke about Amir's comments, saying that those were purely to get attention. Not only that, but he even brought up Pakistan's defeat against the USA in the last 2024 T20 World Cup. In the super over Amir leaked 7 extra runs that cost Pakistan to loose the match. Kaif had said,
"Who got scared against that USA team and made his team lose the game, then I don’t have to say more. Why are we focusing on him? The country that is so behind in the sport, they have no players, no solid captain, or a solid bowler, nothing."
Replying to that Amir debunked himself as an "attention seeker," claiming that Kaif might get some of it by taking Amir's name. He said,
“There was nothing to feel bad about. It was just a case of giving opinions. I am doing so, and you are as well. When Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja were there, I always used to pick India as favourites. Right now, I don’t think they are favourites. I don’t know where this comment about me being an attention seeker has come from. You have played fewer T20Is than I have. Even I can say that you spoke about Mohammad Amir to gain some attention in Pakistan."
