Mumbai Indians ace Rohit Sharma played a brilliant trick on Delhi Capitals during their IPL 2026 encounter on Saturday that left everyone stunned.
Using his vast experience and quick wit, the former India skipper played a blinder and convinced the opposition to waste their DRS on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
It all happened during the 9th over, with Kuldeep Yadav bowling on the leg stump to Rohit. Sharma went for a sweep and completely missed the ball, with the ball then brushing the outside edge past KL Rahul behind the wickets. Kuldeep appealed instantly for a caught behind but was not given it out by the on-field umpire.
That is when Rohit's mind worked. The 38-year-old walked towards the square-leg boundary nonchalantly making it appear as though he was caught behind. It was a subtle tactic that successfully convinced KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav to review the decision using their DRS. Replays clearly showed that it wasn't caught behind with the ball missing the bat by miles, as Rohit giggled along with the Kuldeep at the other end.
'It was a funny situation. One of those days where you have to use your presence of mind and experience,' said Rohit after the game.
IPL 2026 Orange Cap and Brilliant Form
The Mumbai Indians star Rohit Sharma has kickstarted the IPL 2026 campaign on fire. He scored 35 runs in just 26 balls against Delhi Capitals on April 4. During his cameo, he smashed five boundaries and a massive six. This was on the back of his brilliant 78-run inning in 38 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede stadium, which guided MI to a six-wicket victory chasing 221 with five balls to spare.
In just two games so far, Rohit has amassed 113 runs at an average of 56.50 and holds the temporary Orange Cap from Punjab Kings' Australian recruit Cooper Connolly for the first time in his IPL career.
Rohit's intelligent on-field play and batting dominance shows that at 38, he is still one of the most experienced and smartest players in the league.
