A request to get enrolled in a formal training camp got stamped under a punch roller! The incident happened in Barshi Town, Solhapur District.

A 15-year-old boy of ninth standard got crushed under a heavy pitch. The police logged complaints against the responsible coaches.

According to a report from the Times of India, the tragedy happened on Saturday. The teen, identified as Arav Chaudhary, is a student of Class IX and is waiting to get promoted to Class XI.

He requested his father, Viren Chaudhury, to get himself enrolled in a professional cricket coaching camp. Agreeing to that, he took his son to a cricket summer camp in Solapur.

There, in the morning, around 7:30 AM, the children were asked to roll down the pitch. There were 12-15 students who were entitled to the heavy roller. However, as per reports, there was no adult supervision.

While rolling, the ball slipped and fell down. Unaware of the situation, the boys rolled down the roller, and it went over the victim.

Soon after that, the boy was rushed to the hospital near the camp. There, he was declared dead. The body underwent a postmortem. The report claimed the examination result has been reserved.

Police inspection and further steps

Mahesh Galgate, the sub-inspector of Barshi Police Station, cited the entire incident in the report on how the boy slipped and succumbed.

The father of the 15-year-old boy informed police that no supervisor was monitoring the children during the cricket camp session when the fatal accident occurred. He alleged that the absence of proper oversight reflected serious negligence by those responsible for organizing and managing the camp.

Following the incident, Barshi city police filed a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Two cricket coaches, along with two organisations, including the local cricket association, have been named in the case.

Authorities stated that the legal action was initiated based on preliminary findings and allegations linked to the boy’s death. According to reports, no arrests had been made till late Sunday evening, while police continued their investigation to determine accountability and gather further evidence.
