Some knocks are simply incredible. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced one against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League 2026.
The Rajasthan Royals opener scored 78 from 26 balls, which was nothing short of phenomenal. In 15 balls, the 15-year old reached his half-century and chased down a large 202-run target. It was not just the runs that were astonishing but also the fearlessness he showed with the bat; every bowler that he faced was attacked.
Fearless batting stuns top bowlers
Sooryavanshi did not deter when faced with world-class bowling. He attacked Josh Hazlewood and slammed him for four successive boundaries in the second over of his spell. This came right after the pacer had dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar too wasn't immune. The youngster had also reached his fifty with two sixes back-to-back off Bhuvneshwar. This came after Bhuvneshwar was hit for two boundaries in the first over.
There were whispers of a potential hundred during his innings but was dismissed by Krunal Pandya in the 9th over as he mis-hit the ball and caught by Virat Kohli at long-on. From that moment onwards, there was a collapse and Rajasthan lost two more wickets. Dhruv Jurel kept his cool and led the team home with 4 wickets still remaining. Rajasthan marched on to victory and top of the table with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi rightly named the player of the match.
Not a one-off knock
This was not the only remarkable innings from him this season. In the previous game against Mumbai Indians he scored against top bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult and even smashed the former for six on the very first ball he faced.
Talking after the match Sooryavanshi stated:
"I try to perform the practice in the actual match and trust my natural game. Of course, at the back of your mind, you know whose bowling it is (Bumrah or Hazlewood) but you play the ball and not the bowler."
The young batter has already stamped his mark winning the U-19 Cricket World Cup 2026. Now he has also proved his mettle on the biggest stage and at this rate, he could be playing for India in a few years' time and may even break records set by legends such as Sachin Tendulkar.
