Karachi Kings faced their third consecutive defeat in PSL 2026 after a commanding win by Islamabad United on Thursday (April 16). The Kings, who had a rough outing last week against Peshawar Zalmi, managed to put up only 150/6 this time around, while United chased down the target comfortably, finishing with four overs to spare.
Reeza Hendricks and Jason Roy tried to spark some life into a struggling Powerplay with a few boundaries, but Shadab Khan quickly put a stop to their momentum by taking two wickets in two overs. He dismissed Roy first and then added to Salman Agha's troubles in the tournament. Aside from Imad Wasim, the other bowlers were on point that night, keeping the runs in check and taking crucial wickets.
With a solid position at 106/3 and six overs remaining, the Kings must have felt that reaching 170 was within their grasp. Azam Khan kicked off the 15th over with back-to-back boundaries, giving the Kings a much-needed boost.
However, Richard Gleeson and Faheem Ashraf tightened the screws in the following overs, with Gleeson also managing to dismiss Azam with his second-to-last delivery. Hendricks reached his half-century, but with only 18 runs scored in the last two overs, the Kings ended up with a disappointing total.
Minhas Fifty Powers United Chase
In their chase, United got off to a strong start, with Devon Conway and Sameer Minhas each hitting a boundary in the first couple of overs. Agha's early introduction in the Powerplay didn’t change the tide, as Minhas took him on, smashing three boundaries to race to 25.
By the end of the Powerplay, the outcome of the match was pretty much sealed, with the boundary onslaught continuing. While Conway contributed, it was Minhas who truly shone, helping his team wipe out 67 runs by the end of the sixth over.
The Kings were in desperate need of a miracle to make a comeback in the match, but that just didn’t happen. Minhas, however, managed to score his fifty off just 29 balls. Even though he got stumped midway through, the openers had already set the stage with a solid 93-run partnership. Then, Conway and Shadab took over, sealing the deal for their team.
It was only fitting that the New Zealand opener finished things off with a boundary, which also marked his half-century. With this victory, United has climbed to the second spot on the points table.
