Panchkula's Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium has undergone a major infrastructure overhaul worth Rs 10 crore ahead of the third edition of the Chandigarh Premier League, scheduled from June 8 to June 26.
The redevelopment, carried out by the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran, has upgraded the venue to meet national and international cricketing standards.
A total of 34 CPL matches will be played at the stadium this month. The project included significant improvements to lighting, player facilities, training infrastructure and ground maintenance systems.
Officials associated with the venue stated that the stadium is now equipped to host larger domestic competitions and accommodate increased cricketing activity throughout the year.
Lighting And Pavilion Facilities Enhanced
Of the total investment, Rs 7 crore was allocated for the installation of six new high-mast floodlights to facilitate day-night fixtures, while the remaining Rs 3 crore was used for infrastructure upgrades across the venue. A newly built three-storey pavilion on the southern side forms the centrepiece of the redevelopment.
The ground floor has been designated for equipment storage, while the first floor houses two dressing rooms and players' lounges featuring steam rooms, sauna facilities and ice baths. The top floor includes a viewing terrace, pantry area and washrooms for guests. The existing pavilion block has also been renovated and expanded. It now contains separate rooms for umpires, scorers, match referees and video analysts.
The refurbished structure additionally features a large portrait of Kapil Dev carrying the inscription “Kapil Dev–Pride of Haryana.” These upgrades were completed before the start of the CPL season and are expected to support tournament operations at the venue.
Ground And Training Areas Modernised
Several improvements have also been made to the playing and practice facilities. The stadium has introduced new rain guns for irrigation, installed fresh boundary rope wedges and procured new soil for relaying parts of the playing surface during the monsoon season.
A new pitch curator has joined the ground staff and will oversee the preparation of seven pitches for the CPL. Practice facilities have been upgraded with renovated net areas, refurbished pitches and additional chain-link fencing. Similar fencing has been erected around the stadium perimeter for security and ball containment.
The expansion comes amid growing participation at the venue's cricket academy, which currently has 152 trainees and a waiting list of 126 aspiring cricketers. Officials noted that the stadium remains booked for nearly 200 days annually.
