Sarmin Sultana Gets Maiden Call-Up as Bangladesh Name Squad for Sri Lanka T20Is

Sarmin Sultana Gets Maiden Call-Up as Bangladesh Name Squad for Sri Lanka T20Is

The Bangladesh women's cricket team has officially announced their squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the Sri Lanka women's team.

Notably, uncapped top-order batter Sarmin Sultana has earned a spot in the 15-member lineup, stepping in for Fargana Hoque.

This announcement comes right on the heels of the ODI series in Rajshahi, where Sri Lanka emerged victorious with a 2-1 win. Now, Bangladesh is eager to make a comeback in the T20 format, especially after a disappointing batting performance in the 50-over series.

Sarmin, who recently returned to the ODI team after a seven-year hiatus, scored just 42 runs over three innings in that series. Although she hasn’t made her T20I debut yet, the selectors clearly believe in her potential by including her in this squad.

The batting lineup will once again look to captain Nigar Sultana, along with Sobhana Mostary and Sharmin Akter, all of whom made valuable contributions during the ODI series. On the other hand, Fargana Hoque, who has been dropped, only managed to score 11 runs in her single appearance during the third ODI.

When it comes to bowling, Bangladesh seems to have a solid plan. Marufa Akter is expected to lead the pace attack with the new ball, while left-arm seamer Fariha Trisna could play a key role, especially on the responsive pitches in Sylhet.

The spin department will be led by vice-captain Nahida Akter, with support from Rabeya Khan, Sultana Khatun, and Fahima Khatun. This spin unit will be looking to step up after struggling to apply consistent pressure in the ODI series.

This series is likely to be Bangladesh’s last challenge before they head to England for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in June. Earlier this year in Nepal, the team had a fantastic run in the qualifiers, winning all seven matches to secure their place in this prestigious event.

Bangladesh T20I full squad

Nigar Sultana (c), Nahida Akter (vc), Dilara Akter, Sobhana Mostary, Fahima Khatun, Sharmin Akter, Ritu Moni, Shorna Akter, Rabeya Khan, Sarmin Sultana, Marufa Akter, Fariha Trisna, Sultana Khatun, Sanjida Akter Meghla, Juairiya Ferdous.
