West Indies have named a 15-member squad for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Several prominent players make their way back into the side as a crucial phase in their build-up towards the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup continues.
The inclusion of Shimron Hetmyer remains the biggest highlight of the squad announcement. Cricket West Indies, in its plans leading up to the world cup next year, has brought back the southpaw into the ODI set-up. CWI, through its statement has also declared that Hetmyer will link up with the squad before the third and final ODI in the series.
Also included in the set-up is the comeback of fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and spinner Gudakesh Motie. Joseph has been out of international cricket ever since Australia toured them last year as he picked up a back injury during July 2025 while Motie has returned to the set-up after his omission during the November tour to New Zealand.
West Indies will host Sri Lanka for the three-match ODI series to be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica, between the third of June to the eighth of June.
Key Returns Boost West Indies' Bid to Reach 2027 World Cup
The series marks a crucial stage in West Indies' attempt to qualify directly for the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup. West Indies are yet to secure a place and will look to continue their impressive home record in the upcoming series, being led by captain Shai Hope. They are on a four-match winning home ODI series winning streak and will aim to extend it further. Their last home ODI series win came against Pakistan back in August last year.
Daren Sammy, the Head Coach is convinced that the team is moving in the right direction and is looking forward to Sri Lanka's challenge:
"Sri Lanka are a disciplined and skillful ODI unit, especially in conditions that demand patience and smart cricket. For us, this series is about setting the standard, intensity in the field, clarity with the bat, and consistency with the ball. We want to play fearless but intelligent cricket and continue building the identity we believe West Indies cricket should represent."
Sri Lanka Series To Be Followed By T20Is and Tests
Sammy also mentioned that the team must consistently put up strong performances.
"In our desire to make home a fortress in ODI cricket, I want the team to win moments consistently rather than relying on individual brilliance which we have stressed for the last 18 months."
After the ODI series on June 3, 6 and 8, the West Indies and Sri Lanka will proceed for a series of three T20Is in Jamaica, following which they would go for a two-match Test series in Antigua.
