The Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka got mocked by a Punjab Kings fan after the team lost by 54 runs. Goenka who was stationed at the top, in the VIP stand, was seen showing thumbs up with a smiling face when the fan was literally thanking him for buying Rishabh Pant for a whopping INR 27 crores.

The fan even urged Goenka to keep Pant in his side even with 32 crores.

The fan was heard saying,

“Goenka sahab! Thank you for taking (Rishabh) Pant. Paaji many, many thanks! Shukar hai Captain Saadi Punjab team vich nahi aaya. Paaji, even if you have to give 32 crores, don’t let Pant go; keep him with you (Mr Goenka, thank you for taking (Rishabh) Pant. Brother, many, many thanks! Thank goodness the captain didn’t end up in our Punjab team. Even if you have to pay 32 crores, don’t let Pant go—keep him with you!)."

Notably, after the match, Goenka was seen chatting with a number of PBKS players, including the hero of the night Priyansh Arya, and captain Shreyas Iyer.

Rishabh Pant's tenure with LSG

Rishabh Pant is often trolled for his comment on how he was afraid that PBKS might acquire him. While PBKS along with their captain Shreyas, had a good session, the batter Rishabh could only manage 269 runs in 14 innings last year. A significant portion of this tally came from a single unbeaten 118* in the final league game. As of April 20, 2026, he has scored 310 runs in 12 innings at an average of 34.44. His most recent outing was a quickfire 43 off 23 balls against Punjab Kings on April 19.

As a captain, too, he couldn't create a spectacle either. LSG finished seventh in the table last year. Well, LSG has been dealing with a few injury issues, but they still have a good team to go. Notably, last year was their second consecutive year being denied from playoffs.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are currently in 8th place on the IPL 2026 points table. Following their recent 54-run defeat to the table-topping Punjab Kings on April 19, LSG's campaign has hit a rough patch with three consecutive losses. They currently have 4 points from 6 matches.

They face the Rajasthan Royals at home (Ekana Stadium) on Wednesday, April 22, in a crucial bid to stay in playoff contention. Their NRR of -1.173 is currently the lowest in the league, which could be a major hurdle during the business end of the tournament. Meanwhile, overseas batter Josh Inglis is expected to join the squad soon to bolster a struggling middle order
