Sanju Samson has been struggling with form in the ongoing T20Is against New Zealand. Chasing 154 in Guwahati, Samson and Abhishek Sharma opened the innings.
But a masterclass from Matt Henry sent the gloveman packing for a golden duck.
Matt Henry Silences Sanju Samson With A Golden Duck
Bowling the first ball of the second innings, Matt Henry knocked off the stumps with an easy delivery. Sanju Samson tried to play a flick shot, but he missed it completely, and the ball hit the stumps behind him.
The batter and the crowd were equally stunned, and the stadium went silent. Samson walked back to the dugout with a golden duck.

At the time of writing this report, India are 62/2 in 4/2 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav 5 (5) and Abhishek Sharma 27 (7) unbeaten on the crease.
India have already won the first two games. The way the batters are striking, the hosts should be able to seal the series.

Samson's form has been a cause of concern in this series, and more so, for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. In three T20Is, Samson has made 16 runs. During his solitary appearance against South Africa, he made a 22-ball 37.
Going back to the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai, Samson amassed 132 runs in four outings with a strike rate of 124.52. He scored a fifty too. The numbers don't do justice to the high-intensity of the T20 games, especially when Abhishek Sharma made 300+ runs in the same tourney, striking at 200.
On the other hand, Ishan Kishan has taken advantage of his India call-up. Though he fell to just eight runs, he came back in the next match with a 32-ball 76. In this match, after Samson's wicket, Kishan lit the stage on fire with two outrageous sixes and a four to end the first over. He made 28 off 13 balls before being dismissed by Ish Sodhi.
Sanju Samson is undoubtedly a quality opener. But if he doesn't regain his rhythm, he might soon be omitted from the squad for another power strike, someone like Yashasvi Jaiswal.
