A police spokesperson said the case came to light after a written complaint was received at Police Post Dialgam on July 4 from Imran Ahmad Wani, who alleged that he had purchased a motorcycle with fake registration details from Mohd Asif Bhat and Danish Ahmad Bhat.

Accordingly, police registered FIR No. 229/2026 under relevant sections of law and launched an investigation.

During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that the motorcycles had been stolen by Junaid Ahmad Bajad of Nowpora, Dooru, who supplied the stolen vehicles to them for sale on commission, the spokesperson said.

The investigation further revealed that Mudasir Ahmad Bhat advertised and sold the stolen motorcycles through Facebook Marketplace and offline contacts, creating what police described as an organized online and offline network for disposing of stolen vehicles.

Police also found multiple financial transactions made by buyers into his personal account in connection with the sale of the motorcycles, the spokesperson said.

During the investigation, police established that the accused had sold six stolen motorcycles to different buyers. Acting on the leads, all six motorcycles were traced, recovered and seized. "The ownership and registration particulars of the recovered motorcycles were verified through ARTO Anantnag, and the genuine owners confirmed that all six vehicles were linked to theft cases registered at different police stations," the spokesperson said.

Police identified Junaid Ahmad Bajad as the alleged kingpin involved in stealing motorcycles and supplying them for sale. He is absconding, and efforts are underway to arrest him, the spokesperson said, adding that further recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.
