POONCH, Aug 30: Poonch Taekwondo players showcased their talent, discipline and fighting spirit at the Principal Manmohinder Kour Memorial Inter-School Edu-Sports Conclave organised by Nanak Academy, Poonch.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of students and young athletes from different schools. ASP Poonch Dr Ajay Sharma was the chief guest, while Tehsildar Haveli Azhar Majeed was the guest of honour. Chairman Nanak Academy Gurnakash Singh welcomed the guests and participants.
The Taekwondo competition was conducted in various age and weight categories for boys and girls. The Poonch players put up an impressive show, displaying speed, agility, technical skills, discipline and determination in their respective bouts.
The players have been trained by Taekwondo coaches Rajinder Singh and Akarshit Sudan. The bouts were conducted under the supervision of Rajinder Singh, with Akarshit Sudan, Vishnu Raina, Qasim Hussain, Vanshika Sharma and Aliya Khan serving as members of the technical team.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Ajay Sharma highlighted the role of sports in developing discipline, confidence and physical fitness among youth and urged youngsters to stay away from drugs and other harmful activities. He called upon them to become ambassadors of a drug-free Poonch with the message, "Say No to Drugs, Yes to Sports."
Tehsildar Azhar Majeed appreciated the confidence and dedication displayed by the young athletes and lauded the coaches for their efforts in promoting sports among children. Medals and certificates were presented to the winners and outstanding performers by the dignitaries.
