New Delhi, March 29: The police station in Shakarpur, East Delhi, has dismantled an organized gang posing as fake recovery agents. This gang extorted money from individuals by using a mobile app to identify vehicles with outstanding EMIs.

Authorities arrested four members of the gang and seized five mobile phones and a car from their possession.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajiv Kumar, Keshav Kumar reported on March 26 that individuals in a white Brezza car had wrongfully stopped him near ITO on Vikas Marg. The suspects assaulted him, threatened him, and extorted ₹18,000 through an online transaction. Following this complaint, Shakarpur police registered a case on March 27 and formed a special team to investigate. This team operated under the supervision of the Shakarpur station house officer and ACP Preet Vihar.

During the investigation, a tip-off revealed the involvement of individuals from Bagpat, who were using a mobile application to identify vehicles with overdue EMIs. The information was corroborated through technical analysis of mobile data and location tracking, establishing the suspects’ presence at the crime scene and their connections. Based on continuous efforts and raids, suspects Prince, Shivam, Titu alias Tittuu, and Akash alias Akkuu were apprehended.

During questioning, the accused disclosed their involvement in multiple incidents, revealing that they operated as fake recovery agents using the Easy Recovery app. They targeted vehicle owners using a white Brezza car without a license plate on busy roads. The police are continuing their investigation to identify other victims and trace their accomplices involved in the financial transactions.
