New Delhi, April 4: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has successfully dismantled a large illegal unit producing counterfeit Sensodyne toothpaste in the capital.

A significant quantity of fake products, machinery, and raw materials were seized, and the factory owner was arrested.

According to police reports, the Eastern Range-1 team of the Crime Branch received a tip-off on April 2 about counterfeit Sensodyne toothpaste being manufactured in a warehouse located in Mahavir Vihar, C-Block, Khajhawala. Under the leadership of Inspector Ashish Sharma, the team promptly raided the site, where six workers were found filling and sealing tubes with the fake paste.

During the operation, police confiscated a large amount of counterfeit goods, including 1,800 filled and sealed fake Sensodyne toothpaste tubes, 10,472 empty tubes, 616 capped empty tubes, and 1,224 pre-filled and packaged tubes. Additionally, around 130 kilograms of blue raw paste, a complete tube filling and sealing machine, cartons branded with Sensodyne, caps, shrink sleeves, heating guns, glue, and other packaging materials were also recovered.

All items were being produced under unsanitary conditions, posing a serious health risk to consumers. The paste used in the counterfeit toothpaste was of local and substandard quality.

The main accused, Hari Om Mishra (58 years old, resident of Sector-2, Rohini), has been arrested. During interrogation, he admitted to renting the warehouse and packaging raw paste into empty Sensodyne tubes for sale in the market without any license or permission from the brand owner. Most of the workers were from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Police also confirmed with the authorized brand representative, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, present at the scene, who identified all the items as counterfeit.

A case has been registered at the Crime Branch police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Copyright Act. The police are now conducting further investigations to trace the suppliers of raw materials, other accomplices, and the entire distribution network.
