Madhya Pradesh Opposition Leader Urges Extension of Loan Repayment Deadline for Farmers

Bhopal, April 4: Umang Singhhar, the Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, has written to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, requesting an extension of the loan repayment deadline for farmers in the state.

In his letter, Singhhar highlighted that the wheat procurement process in the state has been repeatedly disrupted, with the procurement date changed three times so far. Additionally, a shortage of gunny bags has hindered the procurement process, forcing farmers to sell their produce below the minimum support price. This situation has led to significant financial losses for the farmers.

He pointed out that this predicament directly affects the farmers’ ability to repay their loans. According to the Ministry of Finance, there are approximately 6,417,424 farmer credit card accounts in the state, with a total outstanding loan of around ₹86,995 crores.

Singhhar also noted that previous requests to the government for extending the loan repayment deadline have not received a positive response. He has urged the government to extend the deadline to April 30 and ensure that affected farmers are not declared defaulters. Furthermore, he called for the wheat procurement process to be completed swiftly and smoothly, along with ensuring an adequate supply of gunny bags.

The Leader of the Opposition emphasized that in light of the farmers’ challenges, the government should make prompt and sensitive decisions in their favor.
