New Delhi, April 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Conference' at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday, emphasizing that women's empowerment is among the most significant decisions of the 21st century.
He stated that the nation stands at a historic juncture where a major decision dedicated to women’s strength is about to be made.
In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister noted the festive spirit of Baisakhi and mentioned that the New Year will also be celebrated in various parts of the country. He paid tribute to the brave martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on this occasion.
PM Modi remarked, "Amidst these crucial milestones in the country’s development journey, India is about to make one of the largest decisions of the 21st century. I say this with full responsibility; this decision is dedicated to women’s strength, to the Nari Shakti Vandan."
He highlighted that India’s Parliament is on the verge of creating a new history-one that will fulfill the resolutions of the past and achieve future goals. He envisions an India where social justice is not merely a slogan but an inherent part of the work culture and decision-making process.
The Prime Minister indicated that April 16, 17, and 18 will be seen as the end of a long wait for women’s reservation, recalling that in 2023, the first step was taken with the introduction of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act in the new Parliament.
He announced that a special session of Parliament will be held starting April 16 to ensure the timely implementation of this law and to strengthen women’s participation in democracy. He also described the conference as a means to seek blessings from women across the country.
"I have not come here to preach; I have come to seek the blessings of the women of the nation," he stated, expressing gratitude to the women who traveled from every corner of the country, emphasizing that their participation strengthens this historic initiative.
PM Modi acknowledged that the need for women’s reservation in the democratic system has been felt for decades, with discussions ongoing for nearly four decades involving all political parties and multiple generations.
He noted that when this law was presented in Parliament in 2023, it received unanimous support from all parties. He recalled that opposition parties insisted that this provision must be implemented by 2029 at all costs.
In his address, the Prime Minister congratulated all women in the country on the arrival of a ‘new era’ and stated that this decision will further strengthen the nation’s democracy.
