Kolkata, March 8: Political tensions have escalated following President Droupadi Murmu's recent visit to West Bengal. Senior CPI(M) leader Hannan Mollah has responded to the controversy surrounding changes in the President's itinerary and the absence of the Chief Minister during the event.

Mollah stated that there is a growing perception among the public that Prime Minister Modi and the central government are leveraging the President’s visit for electoral gain in West Bengal. He emphasized that the President holds the highest constitutional office in the country and deserves respect from all, underscoring the importance of adhering to protocol.

He raised concerns about the Chief Minister’s absence during the President’s welcome, questioning why she was not present. Mollah accused the central government of attempting to exploit the President’s visit for political advantage during election time, which he deemed inappropriate.

Furthermore, Mollah alleged that the Prime Minister is misusing the Election Commission to secure electoral victories in Bengal. He claimed that there are attempts to buy votes and incite communal tensions. According to him, sending the President to the state for political gain undermines the integrity of the office.

In response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments on the film “Kerala Story-2,” Mollah remarked that many intellectuals across the country, including those from Kerala, have labeled it a propaganda film. He accused films like “Kashmir Files,” “Bengal Files,” and “Kerala Files” of being created under the influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to defame a particular community and incite Hindus against them. Mollah asserted that tarnishing the name of any specific state is against national interest.

Additionally, Mollah raised questions about Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s visit to West Bengal, highlighting confusion regarding the voter list, which has raised concerns for over a million voters. He noted complaints about names being removed from the voter list, a serious issue that threatens the democratic process. Mollah criticized the BJP for mistreating voters and using the Election Commission to create a system that removes anti-BJP voters from the list.

On the issue of infiltration, Mollah targeted Home Minister Amit Shah’s statements, asserting that border security is the responsibility of the central government and the Home Ministry. He argued that if infiltration is occurring, the central government must be held accountable, rather than shifting the blame elsewhere.

Mollah questioned why, if the goal is to remove infiltrators, no action has been taken. He claimed that the Home Minister only raises this issue during elections to create a favorable atmosphere for the BJP.
