Jaipur, April 14: Ahead of the Char Dham Yatra season, the Rajasthan Police's Cyber Crime Unit has released a comprehensive advisory for pilgrims.
In light of the rising incidents of online fraud, the police have urged the public to remain vigilant.
This advisory, issued under the direction of Additional Director General (Cyber Crime) V.K. Singh, aims to protect travelers from cybercriminals. Scammers are targeting individuals with fake helicopter bookings, hotel reservations, and VIP darshan offers.
DIG of Cyber Crime Shantanu Kumar Singh has warned pilgrims to book only through official government portals or trusted travel agencies. Scammers lure victims with enticing advertisements for cheap packages or instant darshan on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
The advisory emphasizes that individuals should not share their UPI details, OTPs, or card information with unknown persons and should avoid making payments over unsolicited calls.
Additionally, it stresses the importance of secure digital transactions during travel. Travelers are advised against using public Wi-Fi at railway stations, airports, or dharamshalas for financial transactions, as this poses a risk of data theft.
The police also cautioned that there is no need to scan QR codes to receive money, and PINs should only be entered when sending money. Travelers are encouraged to use ATMs located in secure and crowded places, particularly within bank premises.
For mobile security, it is recommended to enable two-factor authentication and to use personal power banks instead of public USB charging ports.
Pilgrims are advised to share their live location only with trusted family members and to be wary of fraudulent calls from individuals impersonating temple or police officials. In case of emergencies, it is advised to verify the situation first.
In the event of cyber fraud, individuals are encouraged to contact the 1930 helpline or file a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
The Rajasthan Police has appealed to all pilgrims to travel safely and remain alert.
