Rajiv Gandhi will be remembered for promoting harmony: RC Khuntia

Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee Telangana state incharge R.C. Khuntia on Saturday contended that the efforts of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in promoting communal tranquillity and harmony will forever remain unparalleled.

He was addressing the Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration celebrations at Charminar, organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Memorial Committee.
The committee conferred the Sadbhavana Award to prominent freedom fighter Prof. A. Gopal Kishan.

Mr Khuntia recalled that Rajiv Gandhi carried out a Sadbhavana rally in 1990 to spread the message of peace and harmony.

He had chosen Charminar to unveil the yatra's flag. He said Rajiv Gandhi had revolutionised information technology and communication sectors and developed India in the field of technology.

Rajiv Gandhi also carried out key changes in the Panchayat Raj to develop rural India, recalled Mr Khuntia.

He insisted that there was a dire need to strengthen the Congress in order to protect the country's democratic values. Mr V. Hanumantha Rao and others also spoke on the occasion.
