3D Housing Pilot to Test Faster, Cheaper Construction

3D Housing Pilot to Test Faster, Cheaper Construction

Vijayawada: Central Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandrasekhar has said a 3D housing project is being taken up at Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem, on a pilot basis, to examine whether this technology could reduce construction costs and time.

This, he said, is imporant amid the problems of labour shortages and rising material prices.

Speaking at the foundation-laying programme for three lakh PMAY-G houses at Burripalem in Tenali mandal on Sunday, Pemmasani said 100 houses would be built at Burripalem and 70 houses for persons with disabilities at Obulanayudupalem using 3D technology.

The pilot project would explore the feasibility of end-to-end house construction at lower costs and in less time, he said, adding that experiments had already been conducted at the laboratory level in association with CBRI and startups.

If successful, the technology could enable 50 to 100 houses to be constructed in villages in a shorter period and at lower cost, he said.

Pemmasani said Andhra Pradesh was expected to get only about 75,000 houses based on socio-economic indicators, but coordination between chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and Union rural development minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan helped the state secure three lakh houses.

He said each house would receive assistance of about `2.30 lakh through central and state funds, MGNREGS, Swachh Bharat support and loans to self-help group members at three per cent interest.

The government aimed to complete houses for eligible families having sites within two to three years and also take up pending TIDCO houses, Pemmasani said.

"From huts to homes, rent to assets, and insecurity to dignity" was the objective, he said.

Civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar alleged large-scale irregularities in the previous YSRC government's housing programme and sought a comprehensive probe.

He alleged that funds were diverted and land was purchased at inflated prices.

Manohar said the present government was restoring the stalled systems and developing rural infrastructure, including roads and drinking-water facilities.
