CHENNAI: Inspecting the Nemili desalination facility of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) and the new plant coming up at Perur at a cost of Rs 5814.57 crore, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay urged the authorities to maintain the Nemili facility properly and expedite work on the Perur plant that would bring an additional supply of 400 million litres a day to Chennai.
The desalination facility at Nemili in Chengalpattu district has two units producing 110 and 150 million litres of drinking water to Chennai, supplementing the water supplied from the reservoirs and lakes in Poondi, Sholavaram, Puzhal, Kannankottai Thervoy Kandigai, Chembarambakkam and Veeranam to the capital.
At Nemili, Vijay personally inspected the working of the intake sump at the 110 million litre plant and the functioning of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system at the Reverse Osmosis building in the plant producing 150 million litres of desalinated water daily, an official press release said.
The Chief Minister visited the upcoming plant at Perur and inspected the Intake Structure, Lamella Clarifier, RO permeate tank, Neutralization Pit, product water tank, clear water tank, sludge thickener, administrative building, warehouse, limestone filter, RO building, RO feed tank, Dissolved Air Floatation, Gravity Dual Media filter and other buildings.
He also visited the sites where other work related to the project that would provide drinking water to places in Chennai and Tambaram Corporations besides 20 municipalities adjoining Chennai, benefitting 22.67 lakh people.
