KAKINADA: Authorities have issued a heatwave alert in Kakinada district, with temperatures likely to exceed 41°C over the next five days starting Tuesday, following a warning from the meteorological department.

District collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad said several mandals, including Tallarevu, Karapa, Kajuluru, Kakinada Urban, Kakinada Rural, Pithapuram, U. Kothapalli, Gollaprolu, Gandepalli, Jaggampeta, Kirlampudi, Pedapudi, Samalkot and Peddapuram, are expected to experience high temperatures. He urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The collector advised people to stay well-hydrated by consuming water, fruit juices, coconut water, buttermilk and ORS to prevent dehydration. He also recommended avoiding outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours. Those who must step out were advised to wear loose, light-coloured cotton clothing and use protective gear such as hats, turbans, sunglasses and umbrellas.

He warned that symptoms like headache, vomiting, extreme fatigue, muscle cramps, rapid heartbeat and dark-coloured urine could indicate heatstroke. In such cases, individuals should immediately move to a shaded or cool place, wipe the body with a wet cloth and drink water or ORS.

If symptoms persist or worsen, the affected person should be shifted to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention, he added.
