Deccan Chronicle 2 weeks ago

Fears of fresh flooding loomed over Nepal on Friday as authorities warned of rising water levels in a debris-formed lake near the Tibet border, two days after a glacial collapse triggered devastating floods in Rasuwa and adjoining districts.

Nepal Police also said a water dam on the Tibetan side had reportedly burst again. The death toll rose to 547 with 977 people still missing. The Ministry of External Affairs said 320 Indians remain missing, while around 100 Indian-origin people holding other nationalities are also uncontactable. Around 400 Indians are stranded but safe on the Chinese side, with efforts underway to evacuate them.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said 96 Indians stranded in China had crossed into Nepal, while 21 Tamil Nadu residents reached New Delhi after being evacuated. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reviewed the situation and said India had sent 47.5 tonnes of emergency supplies to Nepal in two military aircraft, with further aid being arranged.
