Visakhapatnam:Unidentified persons allegedly entered an apartment in Akkayyapalem in Visakhapatnam city and brutally murdered a 53-year-old woman before escaping with her gold ornaments on Thursday evening.
The deceased was identified as Pilla Parvathi, a resident of Anand Heights apartment in Srinivasa Nagar under Fourth Town police limits. Her husband Chanti runs a pan shop at Nehru Bazaar, while their two daughters are living in Hyderabad.
According to police, Parvathi had returned from Hyderabad on Wednesday. On Thursday evening, while her husband was at his shop, unidentified persons allegedly entered the flat in a pre-planned manner. Finding her alone, they allegedly murdered her and stole the gold ornaments she was wearing. Police said the assailants also tortured her demanding keys to the almirah.
Clues teams and a dog squad were pressed into service. Police found traces of chilli powder at the crime scene and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas as part of the investigation.
Passenger dies, 10 injured in lorry-pvt bus collision
Kakinada:A 24-year-old youth, Sai Anil, of Panasalavalas village near Rajam died and 10 passengers were injured when a lorry collided with a private bus near Yarnagudem in Devarapalli mandal in East Godavari district. According to Devarapalli police , the private bus was on its way to Guntur. Injured passengers were admitted in Government general hospital for medical treatment. Police registered a case.
VMC clears statue of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga at Control Room Junction
Vijayawada:In a major development welcomed by supporters of late leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has officially approved a resolution for the installation of his statue at the Police Control Room junction in the heart of Vijayawada city.
The resolution was introduced by Central constituency MLA and Government Whip Bonda Umamaheswara Rao during a corporation meeting. Following the approval, members of Radha Ranga Mitra Mandali and Maa Mitra Mandali met the MLA at his Singh Nagar office on Thursday and expressed gratitude for his initiative in fulfilling a long-pending public demand.
Maa Mitra Mandali leaders Chintala Rama Rao, alias Bobby; Chinnapati Srinivas; and Chintala Ravikumar, alias Chanti, felicitated the MLA with a shawl. Bonda Umamaheswara Rao also handed over a copy of the approved resolution to the organisation's representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said Mohana Ranga, who is remembered for championing the rights of poor and weaker sections, continues to hold a special place in public memory. He said the installation of the statue at a prominent junction would be a matter of pride for Ranga's admirers and announced that the unveiling ceremony would be organised grandly soon. He also said efforts would be made to rename the Police Control Room Circle as "Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Circle", another long-standing demand of supporters.
Tadepalligudem SI, Constable in ACB Net
Kakinada:Eluru district ACB sleuths caught Tadepalligudem sub-inspector Peruri Nagaraju and the station constable Vempalli Balachara Rao red-handed while accepting a bribe of `70,000.
According to ACB officials, the complainant Neelapu Kumari has two sons. Her elder son resides in Dubai, while her younger son Abhilash (21) works as an AC mechanic and resides in Tadepalligudem. Abhilash was in love with a 19-year-old girl of Tadepalligudem, and both of them eloped from the town on April 24 with the intention of getting married. The girl's parents lodged a missing complaint of their daughter at Tadepalligudem police station, and subsequently the police traced her in Eluru and handed her over to her parents.
Three days later, SI Nagaraju summoned the complainant and her son to the police station and threatened them by stating that despite the girl having returned, he could still foist a false rape case against Abhilash. In order to prevent such action and ensure that no case was registered against her son, the SI demanded a bribe of `2 lakh, claiming that the amount was being demanded on behalf of the girl's family. The complainant informed the police that her family was poor and unable to afford such a huge amount. SI Nagaraju continued harassment by summoning Abhilash to the police station on a daily basis.
At last, the SI Nagaraju bargained and reduced the amount to `70,000. On Thursday the complainant approached the SI; he suggested to hand over the amount to the constable. When the constable was taking the bribe amount, the ACB officials caught the constable and arrested both the SI and the constable. They said that they would be produced before the ACB court.
RPF, SCR recorded noteworthy performance in multiple security operations conducted in April, 2026
Hyderabad:The Railway Protection Force (RPF) said it had rescued 120 children and seized ganja worth ₹86.17 lakh in separate operations during April. The RPF said it had rescued 96 boys and 24 girls, who were lost or seperated from their families for various reasons, and handed them over to child welfare committees for care and protection, according to an release. It also rescued five boys from human trafficking networks and arrested two traffickers.
The RPF also said it had arrested 16 individuals involved in smuggling narcotics through trains. According to the release, the RPF retrieved passengers' lost belongings worth ₹83.35 lakh and returned them to the owners. Separately, 79 persons were arrested for theft and property worth ₹54.52 lakh were receovered from them.
The RPF also seized illegally transported liquor, arrested railway ticket touts and recovered stolen railway.
Fake TTD employee held for cheating devotees of Rs 65,000
Tirupati:Tirumala police arrested a man for allegedly cheating devotees by posing as an employee of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and promising darshan tickets under the employee quota.
Police identified the accused as Bodapati Naveen Chowdary, 33, a resident of Lingangunta village in Pedakurapadu mandal of Palnadu district. He allegedly used social media platforms to introduce himself as a TTD employee and targeted devotees seeking darshan tickets and accommodation.
According to police, the accused allegedly cheated Suryakala, an employee of a Telugu electronic media organisation in Hyderabad, by promising SRIVANI darshan tickets for six persons. He allegedly collected `47,000 through UPI transactions in multiple instalments and later took another `18,000 in cash after she reached Tirumala, taking the total amount to `65,000. However, he allegedly failed to provide the tickets.
Based on the complaint, Tirumala II Town police registered a case and traced the accused in Palnadu district. Police seized `45,000 cash and a mobile phone from his possession. They also found bank transactions worth more than `10 lakh in his accounts.
Police said four cheating cases had been registered against the accused in Guntur, Prakasam and Krishna districts between 2021 and 2026.
He was produced before a court in Tirupati, which remanded him to 15 days' judicial custody.
