A senior police officer told DH that Manjur was working as a labourer at a construction site. Their manager had facilitated a single bathroom for five labourer families who worked there. The alleged incident unfolded when the girl went to bathe on Tuesday morning.

Manjur is from Assam and joined construction work a few months ago. The girl's father also worked as a construction worker with Manjur. She was helping her family with the cooking.

The police have opened an FIR against Manjur under the BNS section dealing with rape.
