Bengaluru: Bellandur Police Inspector Ramesh Rotty has been suspended over dereliction of duty in connection with an alleged bribery case after a retired Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Sivakumar K, had shared a harrowing experience involving harassment and bribery he faced following the death of his daughter.

Seemant Kumar Singh, the Bengaluru city police commissioner on Tuesday, said that the inspector Ramesh Rotty has been under suspension on the charges of dereliction of duty and lapses on his part following allegations that staff in the station had demanded a bribe from a grieving man to handover the copies UDR and post-mortem report.

Earlier Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Santosh and Constable Goraknath attached to Bellandur police station were suspended as Sivakumar, alleged that the officer demanded a bribe following the death of his only daughter. The suspension order was issued after a detailed inquiry by senior officers of the Whitefield Police Division.

Sivakumar, in his LinkedIn post, had narrated his ordeal a month after the death of his 34-year-old daughter, Akshaya Sivakumar, an IIT-Madras and IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus who died of a brain haemorrhage on September 18 and wanted to "share with everyone the state of affairs when one loses their dear one," describing how he encountered corruption and apathy from multiple agencies. The post was later deleted under alleged pressure, but screenshots of it continued to circulate widely on social media, drawing public outrage and prompting departmental action.
