Bengaluru: The newly laid third and fourth railway lines between Bengaluru Cantonment and Baiyappanahalli are ready for train operations following authorisation from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).
Sumeet Singhal, CRS of the Northeast Frontier Circle, Kolkata, conducted a statutory inspection and speed trial on the 4.928-km stretch between Bengaluru Cantonment and Baiyappanahalli West Cabin, including the Bengaluru East station, on March 31 and April 1.
Bengaluru Cantt-Baiyappanahalli quadrupling nearly ready, officials inspect OHE worksThe section has four major bridges (all road underbridges), three minor bridges (Nos 836, 838 and 841), three road overbridges (ROBs), seven road under bridges (RUBs), and three foot overbridges (FOBs).
The work is part of the 19-km Bengaluru Cantonment-Whitefield quadrupling project aimed at easing congestion and meeting rising demand for passenger and freight traffic in the Bengaluru area, according to the South Western Railway (SWR).
The Rs 492.8-crore project is expected to be completed by December 2026 or early 2027.
