Bengaluru: Neither her humble origins nor the long commute to her alma mater deterred Sneha T, the daughter of a Devanahalli farmer, who will walk home with four gold medals at the Dr Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University convocation ceremony on Saturday.

Although she spent a considerable time on the road travelling between Doddasanne village in Devanahalli and her college, Sneha, a MSc (Chemistry) student, nevertheless, aced her exams. An elated Sneha expressed her gratitude to her parents and teachers, attributing her success to their unstinting support. Currently working as an assistant professor at a Chikkaballapura college, Sneha aims to pursue a PhD in Chemistry.

In all, 37,393 students - 21,912 girls and 15,458 boys - will be awarded their respective degrees on Saturday, besides the 23 PhD scholars who will receive their doctorate. Of these, 71 will receive rank certificates, while 73 gold medals and cash awards will be distributed.

Abhishek Sriram, a BCom student from Seshadripuram Institute of Commerce and Management, Bengaluru, meanwhile, will receive three gold medals at the convocation ceremony. Abhishek has now set his sights on cracking the civil services examination. Divysree S, a BBA student from Krupanidhi College of Commerce and Management, too has bagged three gold medals.

Unsurprisingly, girls will take home most of the laurels at the convocation ceremony. While 37 of the 42 postgraduate rankholders are girls, only nine of the 29 undergraduate rankholders are boys.
