Like Google Maps is to navigation, Gmail is the go to communication application for billions of users worldwide. As per the company, it has more than three billion active users.

Gmail has a visually pleasing and simple user interface, well secured platform with end-to-end encrypted to exchange mails and in the last couple of years, Google has infused several value-added generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) features to improve the user experience.

Now, the search engine giant has introduced new Gemini AI-powered features to Gmail.

Google activates Emergency Location Service for Android phones in India

Gmail gets a new AI Inbox. In addition to offering a simple summary of the email, it will provide suggestions on what action is required, like smart reply with correct context. If there is a long thread, it offers a 'Catch me up' option. It will give a recap of critical events like upcoming travel, flight ticket information, meetings, restaurant reservations, fitness classes, purchase confirmations, and returns.

Also, it brings a very important feature, which we have long wanted in Gmail, the proof-reading. Gmail will finally offer AI-powered writing refinement that helps polish the user's emails with advanced improvements. The feature comes with enhanced grammar, word choice, conciseness, voice (like changing passive to active), and sentence structure.

Like on the Search app, Gmail gets the AI Overview feature. It promises to make it easy for users to find information faster than before. He/she has to simply describe what they're looking for in the updated Gmail search bar, and get a helpful overview based solely on the information from the Gmail inbox.

However, the aforementioned three features are being made available to premium subscribers of Google One Ultra and Pro plans.

For regular Gmail users, Google is bringing new 'Suggested Replies' with personalisation to the 'Smart Replies' feature. Thanks to advanced AI, Gmail uses the context of the conversation to offer relevant, one-click responses that match the user's tone and style, allowing them to refine before sharing.

Also, it brings 'Help me Write'. It uses AI to help get started writing emails, all from a single prompt. And, the regular Gmail users will also get AI Overview feature as well.

Google to offer option to change your user ID on Gmail soon

All the new AI features introduced in Gmail were available in enterprise versions for the last several months. Only now, they are being rolled out the regular users with Gmail accounts.
