Bypoll verdict to decide fate of three political dynasties in Karnataka

Congress and alliance partners BJP-JD(S) have their fingers crossed ahead of the counting of votes for Channapatna, Shiggaon and Sandur bypoll, which may determine the political road ahead for the parties in Karnataka.

Counting of votes is under way

Congress leads in Sandur, BJP and JD(S) ahead in Shiggaon, Channapatna

Early trends show the ruling Congress leading in Sandur segment, and BJP and JD(S) ahead in Shiggaon and Channapatna constituencies respectively, as the counting of votes is underway for bypolls held in three Assembly segments in Karnataka.

All three seats are being led by the parties that previously held them.

Ex-CM Basavaraj Bommai's son, Bharath leads in Shiggaon by 1835 votes

Even with a close fight, BJP candidate Bharath Bommai's lead reaches 1,835 votes after Round 5 of counting of votes. Bommai secures 27,432 votes, while Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan of Congress gets 25,597 votes.

BJP's Bharath Bommai leads in Shiggoan by more than a thousand votes

After second round of counting of votes, Bharath Bommai of BJP leads, with 11,185 votes in total. Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan of Congress trails by 1,139 votes, securing 10,046 votes.

"The Congress' use of power and money has had an influence over nine rounds of counting. But I'm confident that Bharath will re-establish his lead over the remaining 10 rounds of counting," says Basavaraj Bommai on his son Bharath trailing in Shiggaon.

Congress leads in all three bypoll seats

Ruling Congress in Karnataka was ahead in all three -- Channapatna, Shiggaon and Sandur -- Assembly segments.

Congress has been maintaining a steady lead in Sandur, since counting began earlier in the day and it has now also emerged as the front-runner in Channapatna and Shiggaon segments, where JD(S) and BJP were leading earlier, according to Election Commission numbers.
