Karnataka Junior Athletics Championships rescheduled

Karnataka Junior Athletics Championships rescheduled

Deccan Herald 10 hrs ago

Bengaluru: Karnataka Athletics Association (KAA) has postponed the State junior athletics championships by five days to August 12-13, the federation informed all the district associations through a circular on Monday.

The Karnataka athletics body took the step a day after DH reported that student athletes from CBSE schools were left in a spot of bother with the previous date (Aug 7-8) of the competition, which overlapped with the CBSE state championships in Raichur from Aug 6 to 10.

Earlier, KAA considered a resolution through additional time trials for CBSE students who will miss the state championships. However, DH has learnt that officials decided to postpone the event to following an intervention from CM DK Shivakumar, who suggested fresh dates.

"The meet will now be conducted on the following revised dates: New Dates: 12th and 13th August 2026 Venue: Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru," read the circular by KAA on Monday evening.

Both the competitions hold significance in the ongoing season as KAA's state championships are a pathway for the Youth Olympic Games (in Nairobi in November) and other national-level competition qualifications, while CBSE state meet leads to qualification for CBSE Nationals and subsequently SGFI Nationals.
