Seasoned diplomat Mariana L Neisuler has assumed charge of the United States Consulate General in Chennai, succeeding Christopher W Hodges.
"Under President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and Ambassador Gor's leadership, we are focused on strengthening partnerships that deliver real results for both Americans and Indians. I look forward to expanding trade ties, supporting American businesses, and fostering the people-to-people connections that make our relationship so strong," Neisuler said.
Neisuler assumed office on March 2, the US Consulate said in a statement. The Consulate General in Chennai serves Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep.

She previously served as the Deputy Economic Counselor at Embassies Jerusalem and Amman, as well as tours in Washington D C, Dubai, Skopje, and Moscow.
In Washington, Mariana has served as the Senior South Asia Officer focused on India and Sri Lanka in the Energy Resources Bureau and as the Chief of Staff to the Department's first Chief Economist. Mariana has also worked on South Asia in the Political and Military Affairs Bureau and has served in Dubai, Skopje, and Moscow.
Mariana's husband Peter is also a Foreign Service Officer whose most recent overseas posting was as Political Counselor at US Embassy, Warsaw.
