A couple of weeks ago, Razr Fold, Motorola's first-generation wide-screen foldable phone, hit stores in India.
It comes in two configurations-- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage and 16GB RAM + 512GB storage-- for Rs 1,49,999 and Rs 1,59,999, respectively.
Design, build quality and display
The Razr Fold sports a classic notebook-inspired design in compact form factor. When unfolded, it measures just 4.6mm in thickness, and when closed, it measures 10.1mm.

Our review unit is a Pantone Blackened Blue variant. On the back, it has textured fabric pattern featuring small, raised diamond-shaped weaves finish. It offers a firm grip to hold and is also easy to operate single-handedly on the cover screen.
Motorola also offers the device in Pantone Lily White, which comes in a silk-inspired finish with a soft sheen on the back.
The device boasts of high durable titanium reinforcement plate and a precision-engineered teardrop hinge made of aircraft-grade stainless steel to hold the display panels. It offers the user the ability to fold the device in laptop mode to type a message or play games. It also supports tent mode, where the user can place the device on a flat surface to view multimedia content on the cover display or attend a video conference via the front camera hands-free.
It comes with an IP48/IP49 dust-and-water splash-resistant rating, and both the display panels are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 shield.
That said, please use the cover case available for free with the retail box. It will protect the device from cracking during accidental falls on a hard surface like a concrete floor or on an asphalted road.
On the front, it has a 6.6-inch full HD+ (2520 x 1080p) LTPO pOLED cover display with 6,000 nits peak brightness, 10-bit colour depth, 165Hz refresh rate and 21:9 aspect ratio.

The display has an aspect ratio of 21:9, close to what we see in regular phones. It is good for reading messages and consuming multimedia content. Thanks to the slim design and low weight, the user can text or browse the web on the cover screen with less hassle.
When unfolded, it opens up into a wide 8.1-inch 2K (2484 x 2232p) LTPO pOLED-based Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) screen, and a 120Hz refresh rate.
It is brighter (6,200nits) than the cover screen, perfect for binge-watching multimedia content on OTT apps. One can notice the crease in the middle, but over time, people will forget it exists.

Motorola Razr Fold.
It also comes with SGS-certified Low Blue Light and Low Motion Blur protection, which promises to reduce eye strain and improve viewing comfort during prolonged usage.

The device also features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor (on the right side). It works smoothly with a lower false rejection rate.
Further, it supports a standable Moto AI button, which can help people get information on any object shown on the display. And, also can answer to any query in the form of text, voice or a screenshot.
Performance
Motorola Razr Fold is powered by Qualcomm's reliable Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 silicon with Adreno A829 GPU, an advanced liquid cooling system and supports 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.1 storage.
Be it running generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) applications or graphics-rich games, the device works super smoothly without any lag, as such.
Also, the device does get a bit warmed up during extended gameplay or while recording 8K resolution videos outdoors, but not overwhelming to complain about. All premium devices with metal frames exhibit similar behaviour, some even worse.

It runs Android 16-based Hello UI. It is very clean, on par with Pixel phones and easy to navigate through the settings with ease. It is guaranteed to get seven years of Android OS updates and security patches up to 2033 for protection against cyber threats.

It houses a 6,000mAh cell capacity. With a full charge, the device can deliver a full day of battery life with mixed usage.
It supports 80W TurboPower charging tech. With just 12 minutes of charging, it can deliver more than 12 hours of battery life. It takes less than one hour to power up the phone's battery from zero to 100 per cent. It also supports 50W TurboPower wireless charging capability.
Also, it supports the Moto Pen Ultra accessory. It comes with an ultra-fine tip to deliver high precision with pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, low latency, and reliable palm rejection, to ensure every stroke lands exactly where intended.

On the back, it features a triple-camera module-- main 50MP (with 50MP Sony LYTIA 828) + 50MP periscope telephoto lens (with Sony LYTIA 600 sensor with 3X optical zoom, OIS: Optical Image Stabilisation, 100X Super Zoom Pro) + 50MP 122-degree ultra-wide sensor (also supports Macro Vision; the user can get as close as 3.5cm for extreme close-ups shots) with LED flash.

Most of the foldable phones in the market come with pretty good build quality, powerful chipset, but lack a large battery and another big trade off, we see is the camera hardware.

Here, Motorola Razr Fold not only excels with battery life, but also punches above its weight in the photography segment. It has undeniably the best camera hardware among the rival brands in its class.

As you can see from the camera samples, it gets fantastic pictures in almost all light conditions. Be it a human face or flowers or pets, it gets all the crisp details with rich colours, a bit more vibrant compared to the naked eye. But I won't complain. They are absolutely beautiful, worthy to be shared on social media platforms.

With portrait mode, it excels with sharp focus on the subject; edge detection works in all scenarios. Be it flower petals or the hairy pet, it perfectly captures them and artfully blurs the background to get that natural bokeh effect.

At night, though the auto-focus loses some speed, it manages to get good photos with steady hands.

One of the highlight aspects of the Razr Fold is the 3X optical zoom, which delivers stunning, sharp photos with almost zero loss of quality. Take a look at Bul Bul chick, which was taken from a safe distance to avoid disturbing the nest.

Also, the close-up shots of the roosters and hens are absolutely gorgeous.

It also supports Moto AI-powered 100X Super Zoom Pro. It can get you sharp photos up to 20X, but beyond that, it begins to accumulate noise.
But, have to say, the native camera's software does a fine job with reducing the grains compared to others in its class. As you can see in the 100X zoom shot of the moon, it has been artificially sharpened to get nice details of the scarred surface.

Motorola Razr Fold supports ultra-wide angle mode with 122-degree field of view.

It can capture the vast expanse of any big landmark or scenic landscape, such as sandy beaches and foothills, with clear details and natural colour tones. It also comes in handy with group photos as well.
At close-up range too, it does amazingly well in capturing all the minute details in the frame.

Final thoughts
Although the Razor Fold is Motorola's first attempt at a notebook-style foldable phone, it has done a pretty good job with design, display, build quality, performance, and especially the battery life and camera, outranking the competitors in the market.
