Nayakanahatti (Chitradurga): Sumalatha (21) of Karipalayyana Hatti in Chikka Ullarthi village, Chitradurga district, was allegedly raped and murdered just three days after marrying the man she loved.
She married shepherd Gajendra at a temple in Nayakanahatti on August 14, with his friends Boreyya and Ashok reportedly helping with the wedding.
After the marriage, Sumalatha stayed with Gajendra at his sheep pen. She served food to Gajendra and his friends before stepping away to relieve herself. According to sources, Boreyya followed her, gagged her with a cloth and raped her. He then reportedly called his brother Karayya, who was grazing sheep nearby. The two allegedly strangled Sumalatha with a towel and dumped her body into an abandoned well.
On August 16, her body was recovered. Superintendent of Police Ranjit Kumar Bandaru said that Boreyya and Karayya have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Gajendra and Ashok have also been taken into custody for questioning as the investigation is underway.
