Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday said that steps have been taken to completely eradicate drug networks in Karnataka.
He addressed the medal awardees after participating in the "Police Flag Day" and "Chief Minister's Medal" presentation ceremony held at the KSRP parade ground in Koramangala.
"Our government has stepped forward to completely eradicate the drug network in the state, and the Chief Minister has declared his intention to make Karnataka drug-free. By seizing drugs worth thousands of crores of rupees over the last three years, strict action has been taken against many involved in the racket," Parameshwara said.
"The menace of cybercrime is increasing in the country. For the first time in the country, Karnataka has established a Cyber Command Unit and appointed a DGP-rank officer. By providing more encouragement to the Cyber Command Unit, we have been successful in reducing cybercrimes," he claimed.
He said that the occasion of unifying the state police and leading them with discipline, achieved by implementing the Police Act on April 2, 1965, is celebrated as Police Flag Day.
"The police are working hard to maintain peace, tranquility, and law and order in the state. They have been successful in this. According to the India Justice Report, Karnataka ranks first in the country in providing justice to victims. The police department has done an excellent job, particularly in delivering justice.
"The Union Home Department has recognized the Kavitala Police Station in Raichur district as the 3rd best police station in the country. The government desires all police stations in the state to become excellent police stations like the Kavitala Police Station in the coming days," he said.
Parameshwara accepted that the police department faces challenges every day.
"Amidst these challenges, for the past three years, our government, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, has succeeded in maintaining peace in the state. People who come to the state for capital investment desire peace and tranquility. The police department has been successful in creating a harmonious atmosphere in the state," he said.
"Police officers and personnel have demonstrated their capability by detecting crimes very swiftly without compromising the integrity of the department during their duty. I express my appreciation for their efficiency and capability," he added.
The Union Home Minister has stated that they have made the country Naxal-free, Parameshwara said.
"By establishing the Anti-Naxal Force many years ago, we made Karnataka the first Naxal-free state in the country. Modernity is posing challenges every day. There is a need to work on enhancing operational efficiency by undergoing training at all levels," he said.
"Modernization will be utilized in transfers and recruitment within the police department. The Chief Minister has made provisions in the Budget for the recruitment of 8,000 Constables and 600 PSI posts. He has also announced a permanent Police Auxiliary Services Recruitment Board. Further reforms will be brought into the police department in the coming days."
