'Tu Yaa Main' movie review: Lively couple, 'dead' pool

Bejoy Nambiar has always had a taste for the unusual. His films tend to flirt with style, mood, and music in ways that feel fresh, even when the storytelling occasionally stumbles.

Lately though, that spark has dimmed a bit. So when he takes on a remake of a 2018 Thai survival thriller 'The Pool', the question is simple. Can he still pull it off?

'Tu Yaa Main' introduces us to Maruti and Avani, two content creators from wildly different ends of Mumbai's social spectrum. They meet at an event, graduate to DMs, and before long they are the internet's newest couple goals. Naturally, reality intervenes. Seeking a breather from the chaos, they head out for a getaway that goes spectacularly wrong. They end up stuck inside an empty hotel swimming pool, where emotional baggage surfaces faster than rescue plans. And just to keep things lively, there is a rather hungry crocodile circling the situation.

'Maarnami' Film Review: A domestic romance lost in chaos

Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor make a compelling pair, bringing honesty and subtle emotion to their roles. Their chemistry keeps things engaging even when the film slows down. The first half feels a bit unsure and drags at times, but the second half picks up with more tension and focus. Remy Dalai's cinematography lifts the confined setting, while Nambiar's knack for music still shows and enhances the mood.

All said and done, 'Tu Yaa Main' is not Nambiar at his sharpest, but it is a more engaging effort than his recent films. Flaws and all, it makes for a decent OTT watch with a mix of drama and danger.
