The owner of the homestay has also been accused of trying to suppress the incident. Acting on the information received from the embassy, police immediately acted and arrested the two accused persons, including the homestay owner.

Kodagu Superintendent of Police R N Bindumani refusing to disclose any information about the accused men informed that the case was sensitive and more details cannot be disclosed.

The two accused men were arrested promptly and all legal actions have been initiated, the SP added. "This is not just an attack on an individual, but an attack on our nation's values," MLC C T Ravi said in a post on X.

"In a country that believes in 'Atithi Devo Bhava' (Guest is God), such an incident is shameful. The government must take swift and strict action against all those involved," he urged.
