Recently, Vivo launched the new line of premium V70 series mid-range phones in India.
The new device comes in two variants-- V70 and V70 Elite-- with prices starting at Rs 45,999 and Rs 51,999, respectively.
I used the standard V70 model for a week, and here are my thoughts on the Android phone from the house of Vivo.
Motorola Edge 70 review: Stylish slim design with decent performanceDesign, build quality and display
The new Vivo V70 flaunts an all-new design language compared to the predecessor. It features a solid flat rail around the screen. It is made of premium aluminium materials with a matte finish, which not only offers a firm grip for the fingers to hold on to the device, but also repels sweaty fingerprint smudges.
Even on the back, it has a smooth, glossy finish and doesn't get stained quite easily. Our review unit is lemon yellow and looks lovely in the sunlight.
The company also offers the device in passion red colour, which, by the way, is more pleasing to the eyes.

It is not just pretty looking phone, it is built to last for several years. It comes with an IP68/IP69 rating, meaning it can survive a drop in a swimming pool or any fresh water body like a pond or a river up to a depth of 1.5 metres (around five feet) for close to 30 minutes. It can even work without high water pressure jets for a few seconds as well.
Further, the company has used Schott Xensation Core shield for the protection against scratches on the display. And also offers a free silicone case with the retail box in addition to a data cable and a charger.
On the front, it sports a beautiful 6.59-inch 1.5K(2750 × 1260p) flat AMOLED screen with HDR10+, 120Hz refresh rate, pixel density of 459 pixels per inch (ppi) and offers up to 5000 nits peak brightness.

It is really good for multimedia consumption. The colours on the screen appear vibrant and make you spend more time watching TV series and movies on OTT apps, viewing reels endlessly on social media platforms and playing games a little longer than usual.
It also boasts eye-care features to control blue light emissions and reduce the strain on the eyes. This comes in handy while reading e-books or long-form news articles at night.

The device also comes with a Type-C USB port, a dual-SIM slot (type: nano) and a 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. The latter does a fine job of identifying and unlocking the home screen in a flash with a lower false rejection rate.
Performance
The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, the same as one found in the predecessor.

However, the company has used advanced RAM and storage chips-- LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1, which ensure the successor performs better (significantly higher read/write speeds, and efficient use of memory) and faster than the previous iteration.
It is available in two configurations-- 8GB RAM + 256GB and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage-- and runs Android 16-based OriginOS 6.

The device performs smoothly. Be it switching between apps or operating the camera to record high-resolution videos or running AI applications and playing games, it doesn't show any glaring issue of lag to complain about. Also, it is easy to navigate through the settings of the phone.
Also, it comes with productivity tools and a one-tap tool to transfer files instantly between two devices.

Vivo V70 is guaranteed to get four years of Android OS updates (up to 2030) and six years of security patches for protection against emerging cyber threats up to 2032.
The device comes with a 6,500mAh cell capacity same as the predecessor. However, it manages to deliver more than a day of battery life under normal usage of Wi-Fi at home and cellular network outdoors.
Also, it supports 90W fast wired charging. To reach from zero to 50 per cent, it takes around 30 minutes and can hit 100 per cent in less than 55 minutes.

Photography
The devices also come with a triple-sensor module with ZEISS Camera system featuring a main 50MP camera (with 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX766 sensor, f/1.88 aperture, OIS: Optical Image Stabilisation) + 8MP 115-degree ultra-wide camera (with f/2.2) + 50MP (with 1/1.95-inch IMX882 3x periscope telephoto camera with f/2.65, OIS: Optical Image Stabilisation) with Aura light LED.

Final thoughts
Though Vivo V70 is a moderate upgrade over its predecessor, it is a reliable phone. It delivers good on smooth performance, impressive build quality, praiseworthy camera hardware and a full day of battery life.
The Vivo V70 comes in two variants-- 8GB RAM + 256GB and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage-- for Rs 45,999 and Rs 49,999.

Compared to the predecessor's launch price, the new V70 series is a bit expensive. This is caused by huge global supply constraints to procure RAM and storage chipsets. Most of the semiconductor companies are finding it hard to meet the demands of AI firms, who are scaling their data centres in much faster pace than ever before. And, there is a very small number of units to share with smart device makers.
