Ahead of Home Minister Amit Shah's announcement to stay and campaign in West Bengal ahead of the assembly elections, TMC has shared a social media post on X "welcoming" the BJP veteran as a tourist with 'open arms' and took a swipe at him by recommending local non-vegetarian delicacies.
The social media post drafted by TMC's official X handle read, ".@AmitShah has announced his decision to spend 15 days in Bengal. Good. Bengal welcomes tourists with open arms. Stay for as long as you like."
This comes after Amit Shah intensifying BJP's campaign in the state, that included a massive roadshow in Bhabanipur (Mamata Banerjee's strong hold) to support party candidate Suvendu Adhikari.
TMC, then took a political jibe by recommending some of the state's finest delicacies, aimed at presenting the BJP as out of touch with Bengal's tradition as earlier alleged by Mamata Banerjee that the ruling party would restrict Bengali food habits, including fish and meat if it comes to power. "We highly recommend:
Muri Ghonto
Pabda Macher Jhal
Ilish Bhapa
Chingri Malai Curry
Bhetki Paturi
Kosha Mangsho"
The post further read, "Have a pleasant stay!"
Adding to the menu, Derek O'Brien, TMC's parliamentary leader in Rajya Sabha commented on the post saying "Arrey, papad chutney o Mota Bhai kay dao." (Give papad and chutney also to Mota Bhai!)
But some also hit out at the TMC for the jibe at the home minister. One netizen commented, "Dear TMC, thanks for the 'warm' menu of fish, prawn & mutton, perfect for a strict vegetarian like Amit Shah ji who has never touched non-veg in his life. #Bengal's real 'delicacies' under you: #Sandeshkhali rapes, teacher recruitment scams, and 15 years of goon raj. Tourists are welcome. Your time in power isn't. We'll serve Bengal actual development in 2026. Bon appetit… to your exit."
Another wrote, "So now TMC is making it Veg vs Non Veg..wow..What a downfall.."
The West Bengal Assembly Elections for 2026 will take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The election results will be out on May 7.
