New Delhi: Indian women's cricket star and poster girl Smriti Mandhana has created history in ODI cricket. In the ongoing World Cup match against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, she broke Australian legend Belinda Clark's record, which had stood since 1997.
Belinda had scored 970 runs in a single calendar year in 1997, but Smriti has now surpassed that record, scoring 982 runs in 2025.
Broke the record with a stylish six
In a match delayed due to rain, Smriti Mandhana smashed a straight six off Ayabonga Khaka in the eighth over to seal the record. It was a brilliant and confident shot, reflecting her excellent form in 2025.
A 28-year-old record was broken
Belinda Clark’s record was one of the most prestigious and long-standing in ODI history. She scored 970 runs in 1997, including a historic unbeaten 229-the first double century by a female player in ODIs. Australia also won the World Cup that year.

Although Mandhana has yet to play a major innings in the World Cup, her performance throughout the year has been impressive. She has scored 982 runs in 17 innings, the most by any female player in a single year.
