American freelance journalist and war correspondent Collin Mayfield was injured while reporting on the ongoing civil war in Myanmar. Mayfield stepped on a landmine on November 18 while accompanying a PDF-Zoland column in an operational area near Mount Kennedy in Tedim township, Chin State, resulting in severe injuries to his foot and leg.

Mayfield, who has previously covered major global conflicts including the Russian invasion of Ukraine, gang violence in Haiti, Boko Haram, the Islamic State group, the Yazidi genocide, and Iranian opposition groups in Iraq, had been documenting the resistance movement in Chin State as part of his recent work.

He earlier produced a three-part documentary series titled The Chin Resistance, featuring frontline combat footage from Myanmar's war. The series was released on Qilo TV.

When EastMojo reached out to confirm the incident, Mayfield responded with details of his injuries.
"I stepped on the mine with my left foot, losing two toes and part of my foot. I also took lots of shrapnel to the left side of my right leg and to my left hand," he said.

The injury occurred on the afternoon of November 18. Mayfield said he was en route to Aizawl, Mizoram, for further medical care at the time of reporting.
