Manipur: Violence in Senapati, CRPF personnel injured

Senapati: Fresh violence erupted in Taphou and adjoining areas of Manipur's Senapati district in the early hours of Monday, days after the resumption of Imphal-Guwahati bus services through Kangpokpi and Senapati districts.

According to sources, an arson incident was reported around 2:40 am at Taphou Kuki village, located along National Highway 2. The situation escalated after 4 am, when several Naga houses in 9MR and Mareimei were reportedly targeted and damaged, including houses belonging to residents of Lai and Phuba villages.

The situation turned tense around 9:20 am after gunfire broke out. Some journalists were still at the site covering the incident and recording footage of the burnt and damaged houses.

During the exchange of fire, a 54-year-old constable of the 36th CRPF Battalion sustained a suspected gunshot injury at Liangmai Taphou. He is undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Senapati.

No civilian injuries or casualties have been reported so far.

The situation remains tense, with heavy security deployment in the area to contain the fresh violence and prevent further escalation.
