Shillong: To ease the traffic congestion at Anjali petrol pump point, local MLA and minister Sanbor Shullai on Saturday inaugurated a Public Works Department (Roads) project for the construction, including metalling, blacktopping (MBT), of a link road behind the N.E.F.A. Secretariat in the Cantonment area of Shillong.
For commuters trying to exit Shillong or heading to places like Upper Shillong and Garikhana can now bypass the traffic by using this newly constructed road.
The project, spanning 0.185 km and built at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.36 crore, has been initiated under the MDA government led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong overseeing the PWD (Roads & Buildings) department. The inauguration carried out by Shullai was done in the presence of senior officials, including the Secretary and Chief Engineer of the PWD, along with engineers from the Shillong Central Division.
"This link road will ease 10-20% of the traffic congestion. There was alot of minds put together for this project and I am grateful that we were able to approach the Arunachal Pradesh Govt since this land belongs to the AP govt. Today we are finally able to celebrate this new link which I hope will ease the burden of commuters," said Shullai.
