Kohima: A state-of-the-art 3D Dental Laboratory was inaugurated on Monday, at the Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) by the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Health & Family Welfare Department.
The facility, the first of its kind in the state, has been established under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) and is fully funded by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
Dr Margaret Yhome, Managing Director of NHAK informed that the project is being implemented in association with the North Eastern Council (NEC) and AMTRON (Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd.), a Digital Design and 3D Printing Centre of Excellence based in the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC).
The initiative aligns with the Government of India's vision to position the country at the forefront of Industry 4.0, particularly through the deployment of digital public infrastructure in emerging sectors like 3D printing.
Yhome informed that the 3D Dental Laboratory at NHAK was set up following a Memorandum of Understanding signed on March 19, 2024, between AMTRON, a Government of Assam undertaking, and Naga Hospital Authority Kohima. The facility marks a significant leap in the integration of advanced technology into healthcare delivery in Nagaland.
She said that 3D printing has revolutionised dentistry by enabling dental surgeons to create accurate models and custom-made prosthetic devices. The technology is widely used for producing diagnostic models of patients' teeth and jaws, surgical guides to enhance precision during procedures, crowns and dentures, aligners, and splints. Its benefits include improved efficiency, cost-effectiveness, reduced waste, and quicker chairside delivery of prosthetic solutions.
With this facility now operational, the public is encouraged to avail the benefits of 3D dental services offered by the Department of Dentistry at NHAK.
