Nagaland University distributes bee colonies to farmers

EastMojo 4 months ago

Guwahati: The School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) at Nagaland University, Medziphema campus, conducted an input distribution programme on Tuesday as part of the ongoing project, "Quality Nucleus Stock Development, Training and Demonstration among Farmers and Project Sites." The initiative is funded by the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.

Farmers from Medziphema, Sirhima, Sirhi-Angami and Hekeshe villages participated in the programme, during which bee colonies were distributed. This marks the first phase of the project, which will later include training and demonstration sessions on scientific techniques for multiplying and managing quality nucleus stock.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Pauline Alila, Dean of SAS, commended the farmers for their consistent enthusiasm and active participation in university-led programmes. She reminded beneficiaries that receiving bee colonies also carries the responsibility of maintaining and multiplying them, and encouraged farmers to view beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood opportunity.
