As the mercury begins to climb, leading room air conditioner (AC) manufacturers are preparing to turn up the heat on consumers’ wallets.
Brands like Voltas, Daikin, LG, and Blue Star have announced price hikes ranging from 5% to 15% across their product lineups. This sudden surge is primarily driven by the sustained increase in the prices of key raw materials like copper and the weakening of the Indian Rupee against the US Dollar.
When will the hike take effect? The price adjustments are being rolled out between February and April 2026. While some companies have already implemented minor hikes in February, the full 15% impact will be visible in the retail market from late March and early April as new inventory arrives. Additionally, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has introduced new energy-rating norms effective from January 2026, which require technological upgrades, further adding to the manufacturing cost.
According to industry leaders, copper prices have jumped to nearly $12,000-$13,000 per tonne this year, making production significantly more expensive. Despite the price hike, the industry expects a record-breaking summer in 2026, anticipating a 15-20% growth in sales compared to the sluggish demand in 2025. For consumers looking for a bargain, experts suggest buying before the month ends to avoid the full effect of the seasonal price reset.
