The tragic demise of actor Rahul Arunoday Bandyopadhyay during an outdoor shoot has ignited a massive controversy in Tollywood regarding the safety of actors and technicians.
In response, the Federation and the Artist Forum have summoned channel authorities and producers for a high-level meeting today, April 7th, to finalize a mandatory Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Federation President Swarup Biswas expressed deep frustration over previous failed attempts to implement safety measures. “We cannot work without guaranteed security. It's not just about one incident; technicians have died from short circuits, and others have been permanently disabled. We don’t want to stop work because it affects livelihoods, but we cannot let families suffer forever,” Biswas stated.
The uproar follows the March 29th incident at Talsari, where Rahul drowned while filming for the serial ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’. While actress Sweta Mishra was rescued in time, the industry is now demanding accountability for risky outdoor locations. IMPA President Piya Sengupta has also extended support to the cause. If today’s meeting fails to resolve the deadlock over security guidelines, a total work shutdown in the industry seems imminent.
