While ‘Dhurandhar’ continues to shatter box office records, its breathtaking action sequences have become the talk of the town.
From the gritty street fights in Part 1 to the high-octane aerial maneuvers in Part 2, the film has redefined the action genre in Indian cinema. Now, the masterminds behind these sequences-the stunt choreographers-have stepped forward to share the harrowing yet inspiring journey of bringing these scenes to life.
According to the action directors, the philosophy behind ‘Dhurandhar’ was to prioritize realism over computer-generated imagery (CGI). To achieve this, the lead actors underwent rigorous martial arts and tactical training for over six months before the cameras rolled. A single 180-second combat sequence took nearly two weeks to film, ensuring every punch, kick, and fall looked bone-crushingly real.
The most discussed segment is the climax of Part 2, where the protagonist allegedly performed a high-altitude jump without a stunt double. “Safety harnesses were in place, but at that height, variables like wind speed and split-second timing are critical. It was a heart-in-the-mouth moment for the entire crew,” recalled one of the lead stunt masters. The team insisted on shooting on live locations rather than inside a safe studio, which gave the film its signature raw edge.
The choreographers also revealed the physical toll the production took. Minor injuries, sprains, and bruises were daily occurrences on set. One of the underwater sequences was shot in sub-zero temperatures, testing the endurance of both the actors and the technical crew. The global success of ‘Dhurandhar’ is a testament to the bravery and precision of these unsung heroes of cinema. As the stunt masters put it, the goal was to show the world that Indian cinema is ready for Hollywood-level spectacle, fueled by authentic sweat and blood.
